Back in April, 1971, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) issued a "reminder" to radio stations that they should avoid playing songs that "“tend to glorify or promote the use of illegal drugs such as marijuana, LSD, speed, etc.” The list of songs that radio stations should avoid included "White Rabbit", "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds", "Eight Miles High", "Monkey Man", and 'Puff The Magic Dragon", to name a few, but the song that was banned by the most radio stations was "One Toke Over The Line" by Brewer and Shipley.
I guess Lawrence Welk didn't get the message. He even called the song "a modern spiritual".
