'Transformer' is Lou Reed's second solo album after he left The Velvet Underground. The album was produced by David Bowie and Mick Ronson. Ronson was also featured as one of the primary session musicians, playing guitar, piano and recorder, while Bowie contributed acoustic guitar, keyboards and backing vocals on a couple of songs.
As for Lou, he was at the top of his game with this album, creating a mix of darkness and whimsy
