I've Got the Wednesday Blues

We made it through Black Friday. We made it through Green Tuesday. (I don't know...I think Mrs. 17 made that shit up).

So here we are. Blues Wednsday.

Let's see how it goes. Maybe I'll make it a regular Wednesday habit.

Guitar Gods

Since today is Jimi Hendrix's birthday, I thought it would be fun to celebrate the electric guitar.  Unfortunately, finding Hendrix on Youtube is all but impossible these days, so I'm going to start things off with one of my favorite guitarists.  That would be Hubert Sumlin, who is best known for his work with Howlin' Wolf.

Colorful Friday

Ah, yes. Black Friday. One of my favorites. Everyone gets up early and rushes out to buy me gifts. Can't hardly beat that, huh?

It should come as no surprise that black is my favorite color. All my electronics are black. My pickup is black. Even most of my soul is black.

But I suspect every color has it's tune, so I'll dig around tonight to see if I can find any.

Hope everyone had a happy Thankgiving.

The Perfect Song

I'm talking about a song that starts off on a high note and stays there until the very last note.  If  I were to make a top ten list of perfect songs, this would probably be Number One...

Living For The Ghost Life

I always found it strange that some folks spend their lives focused on a theoretical afterlife while spending their time on Earth doing what they can to make themselves and others miserable.

You Don't Know Me

Gonna put some of this Nickelback problem to bed now.

You can like 'em or not, it doesn't matter. To me, they're like every other band out there. Some is good, and some is just plain shit.

Tonight I'm gonna lay them out, shit and all. You get to decide what's good, and I get to tell you you're wrong. See how I roll?

So Mrs. 17 wanted to play this tune during the "Trains" thread, but I forbade her coz I wear the pants around here, see? It's the 5th track of their latest album, "Feed the Machine".

BTW...

I ain't askeered.

That's Just Weird

"Weird Al" Yankovic is a multi-Grammy Award–winning American musician, satirist, parodist, accordionist, director, and television producer.
He is known in particular for humorous songs which make fun of popular culture or parody specific songs by contemporary musical acts, or both. His works have earned him three gold and five platinum records in the U.S.

So get a laugh, and add your favorite.

All Aboard!

One of the things that pisses me off about this country is the lack of a decent passenger rail system.  If you're not on the East Coast or traveling down the Mississippi River from Chicago to New Orleans, trying to do any long distance traveling by train is a pain in the ass, if not downright impossible.  And that's a shame because trains beat planes when it comes to mass transit, no ifs, ands or buts about it.  Sure, it takes a little longer but you feel so much better when you reach your destination.  You can get up and walk around on a train.  The seats are comfortable, the food is good and the people tend to be friendly because they aren't stressed out.  Don't like the person sitting next to you?  Go hang out in the dining car.  You'll find someone to talk to.

So I'm going to start this week out by playing songs about trains.  You can do the same or you can go off in your own direction.  That's how it is on a train.  You're free to move around.

No Church In The Wild

One of my great-grandfathers was the son and grandson of Baptist ministers.  He went to seminary thinking he'd follow in their footsteps, but somewhere along the way he decided organized religion was hokum.  He also decided that the only place to worship the Creator was outside in the Creation and not inside a building made by men.  I can remember hearing stories about how he'd march his children down to the river every Sunday morning, read a verse from the Bible, then deliver a sermon on the virtues of clean living, the evils of mammon or the equality of all men in the eyes of the Creator.

I always liked that Great-Grandpa believed the path to divinity could only be found in the natural world.  This song isn't really about that, but then again it kind of is.  The original was done by Kanye West and Jay-Z, but I prefer this version by Phil Manzanera and The Sound Of Blue.

Let's Not Shit the Bed

The clock on the outhouse wall told me it's time to dig into the "Music Check-Out" folder again, so I tore a little hole in the corner, and out fell Wovenhand. I hope it works out.
